Granite—

Countertops

Granite is an igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground.

Marble—

Countertops

Marble is beautiful natural stone that is a softer stone, it is prone to scratching and etching but with proper care, this stone makes a wonderful addition to any project.  With its stunning interlocking mosaics of carbonate crystals, veins and a wide variety of colors, Marble adds an air of elegance to any room!

SoapStone —

Countertops

Not all Soapstones are the same, but there are two basic types of soapstone that most people are familiar with. The first is Artistic Grade soapstone. Artistic grade is soft. It can easily be carved with hand tools to make statues and figurines. It also comes in a variety of colors: white, green, pink, etc. This type of soapstone is made up of mostly mineral talc and is not good for making countertops and sinks.

Quartzite —

Countertops

Quartzite is a natural stone formed under the Earth. This stone can be classified as a Metamorphic rock, meaning that over time, layers upon layers of sandstone are subjected to heat and pressure to form the beautiful stone pieces that we use to make your dream project. The stone is then quarried from the Earth in big chunks or “slabs.” From these slabs, we then custom-cut your countertops to your exact measurements.

Granite is one of the hardest natural materials in the world, the only material that is harder than granite is a diamond. The hardness of granite makes it durable, resistant to scratches, chips, and cracks.  Like other natural stones, granite needs to be sealed periodically to prevent liquids from penetrating the stone.

QUARTZ

If you’d prefer a more consistent or contemporary look, quartz may be the choice for you. Many different patterns and colors are available, with the depth and upscale appearance that is identified with this beautiful material. You can find the following brands of quartz in our showroom at 2063 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd. or call for an appointment where we can focus on your specific needs. Service to you is our mission.

Quartz is a strong, tough man-made material that can stand up to decades of use.  It’s resistant to scratches and chips, and since it’s waterproof, there is no need to seal.  Quartz is available in almost any color thanks to pigments that are mixed with resins and quartz to form the surface.  Unfortunately, damage to quartz is difficult to repair, especially with color matching and heat damage.

SOAPSTONE

Not all Soapstones are the same, but there are two basic types of soapstone that most people are familiar with. The first is Artistic Grade soapstone. Artistic grade is soft. It can easily be carved with hand tools to make statues and figurines. It also comes in a variety of colors: white, green, pink, etc. This type of soapstone is made up of mostly mineral talc and is not good for making countertops and sinks.

By contrast, Architectural Grade Soapstone has much less mineral talc and is significantly harder than Artistic. This type of soapstone can be blocked and slabbed for the making of countertops and sinks and is very durable. That said, not all Architectural Grade soapstone is the same. Some are harder than others, but the common theme in all soapstones is that they all contain mineral talc. Without talc, it is not considered soapstone.

Soapstone is a dense, non-porous natural stone that’s often dark in color.  Soapstone is a fairly soft stone that will need care to evade scratches and chips.  This stone is also soft to the touch and very sanitary in the kitchen.  Consider a mineral oil to enhance its beauty and create a beautiful patina over time.

QUARTZITE

Quartzite is a natural stone formed under the Earth. This stone can be classified as a Metamorphic rock, meaning that over time, layers upon layers of sandstone are subjected to heat and pressure to form the beautiful stone pieces that we use to make your dream project. The stone is then quarried from the Earth in big chunks or “slabs.” From these slabs, we then custom-cut your countertops to your exact measurements.

Due to the porous nature of Quartzite, your countertops MUST be sealed, ideally once a year. At International Granite & Stone, we offer a 15-year sealer option called DryTreat, so you don’t have to worry as much over the years. Quartzite is the most durable stone we offer in comparison to Granite and Marble, which is why it’s commonly used for countertops. The stone does not etch and stands up against acidity, unlike Marble.

Quartzite is a durable natural stone that can be very porous which requires sealing.  It’s a hard stone that does resist scratches and chips.  Like granite, Quartzite won’t burn and has the appearance of marble giving each slab its own unique properties
